Prof. Kristin Schirmer is a cell biologist and environmental toxicologist with profound experience in interdisciplinary aquatic research. Her main research aim is to advance cellular models to understand the impact of chemicals and other stressors on fish as an important part of aquatic ecosystems, and to facilitate the reduction and replacement by alternative models of fish in environmental risk assessment. Her research has won her various awards for her research, teaching and technology transfer. She is the head of Department of Environmental Toxicology at Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, Adjunct Professor at the EPF Lausanne and the ETH Zürich, and Co-founder of aQuaTox-Solutions GmbH, which spun-off of Eawag.
