Brazilian Center for Validation of Alternative Methods
Dr. Presgrave is a Biologist with a Master's Degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and a Ph.D. in Health Surveillance, both in alternative methods to the use of animals. He works at the Institute of Science and Technology in Biomodels (ICTB), of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ) and his main research area is alternative methods to the use of animals in experimentation and teaching. Octavio has experience in the area of toxicology of cosmetics, cleaning products, medical devices and injectable products. Octavio is a referee of international scientific journals and was a member of organizing scientific commissions of national and international congresses. He publishes scientific articles and book chapters. Octavio was Coordinator of the Commission of Ethics in the Use of Animals (CEUA = IACUC) of FIOCRUZ, Vice-President of the Brazilian Society of Science in Laboratory Animals (SBCAL) and member of the National Council for the Control of Animal Experimentation (CONCEA). Currently, Octavio is a member of the Technical Chamber of Cosmetics (CATEC) of the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), member of the International Microphysiological Systems Society (IMPSS), member of the Brazilian Academy of Laboratory Animal Science (ABCAL) and Coordinator of the Brazilian Center for Validation of Alternative Methods (BraCVAM).
