Environmental and Sustainability Management of Chemicals

Dr. Belanger retired in 2020 from Procter & Gamble as a Research Fellow in charge of environmental science research programs in the Global Product Stewardship Organization of Procter & Gamble. Belanger’s research involves the response of aquatic organisms to complex mixtures, chemicals, and difficult to test substances including classical ecotoxicological endpoints, bioaccumulation, and critical body burdens of test compounds. His research interests include extrapolation methodologies for high tier hazard assessment including mesocosm, field studies and statistical tools such as Species Sensitivity Distributions. Dr. Belanger is deeply involved in strategy and method development in 3R’s implementation for fish alternatives at the international level including OECD, SETAC, the Health and Environmental Sciences Institute and the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine. Dr. Belanger has published over 150 peer reviewed articles in the scientific literature and has co-authored two books on environmental risk assessment. In 2017 he was named a SETAC Fellow by the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. He is presently Owner and President of StreamWise Ecotox, LLC where he advises clients on issues ranging from sustainability initiatives to environmental responses to chemicals and effluents.
