Environmental External Exposure: Models to Evaluate direct Release of Cosmetic Ingredients into natural waters (MERCI) Framework with BASF, DSM-Firmenich, and Symrise
Objective
Develop a tiered exposure modeling framework to evaluate the potential environmental exposure of cosmetic ingredients to marine and freshwater:
- Identify locations with sufficient UV filter monitoring and environmental data for model testing
- Develop and refine models for the framework, ranging from conservative screening assessments to more site-specific, complex 3-dimensional circulation models
- Evaluate models by comparing predictions of chemical UV filter concentrations to measured values from monitoring studies
- Develop model scenarios to address potential direct exposure of cosmetic ingredients in areas where insufficient monitoring data is available
- Exchange on results
